Juan González Alacreu and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Yesterday's mention of Emilio Frejo's artwork on The Avengers in Diana reminded me that a second artist had also been involved in the strip: Juan González Alacreu—erroneously credited in Crikey! as Alacrejo. González is a fabulous artist who worked on the war libraries as well as various weekly papers for boys and girls. Prior to working on The Avengers, González had worked on another famous TV series, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

This is another strip that desperately needs to be reprinted. Here's the opening episode to give you a taste.

I should note that Juan González Alacreu is not to be confuused with Jose 'Pepe' González or a third Spanish artist called González who also drew strips in the UK.

  1. I have waited patiently for any news regarding the reprints of Alacreu 'Man from UNCLE'comic strips.
His artwork is the best I have seen compared to the american comics issued in the sixties.Has the original artwork been lossed? and who owns the copyright to the series,do you think there is a chance that it will be re issued

  2. Hi John,

I haven't heard that anyone is putting out the strip in book form. The problem is that the copyright on the artwork is held by one company and the copyright on the characters is held by another, both of whom would want a cut of any reprint, which would have to be in full colour, adding to the expense.
